OUGD501 TRAVEL WEBSITE RESEARCH


Booking.com
Aesthetic:
- Blue and yellow colour scheme
- Range of different sized photographs
- Blocks of colour to frame some of the photographs
- A fair amount of white space with dark blue text.
- Informative, simple, to the point, small sentences/bullet points.
- All of the information is on show, there isn't tabs which reveal certain bits of information and close everything else, it's all out there all at once.
Functionality:
- Appeals to everyone in property types and the unisex, contemporary aesthetic.
- Opens new tabs after clicking on a lot of things.
- Easy to use search box for places or specific hotels.
- Ability to list results in different orders, depending on what you're looking for.









Expedia
Aesthetic:
- Range of different sized photographs.
- Wide photographs act as a background to the search boxes on the home page.
- Blue and yellow colour scheme, with a dash of green.
- Very similar aesthetic to booking.com
- Everything's in a list view
Functionality:
- Fit for purpose
- To be easy for everyone to use, simple navigation.
- Clear search box, where you can select different search options easily.












This research has shown me the similarities and differences between two similar travel websites. Some of the similarities of both these websites could be due to the success of these features, so it would be foolish not to include them.
This research will inform what content to include in my own travel website, as I have learnt what features are effective by researching these websites.
