OUGD401 CONTEXT OF PRACTICE MODULE 1

This first module in Context of Practice has four learning objectives:

4A1 Demonstrate an awareness of the aesthetic, cultural, historical, technological, social, political or other contexts relevant to individual subject disciplines. (research / critical awareness)

4A2 Demonstrate an awareness of the relationship between the theoretical and practical contexts of their own subject discipline. (problem analysis/critical awareness)

4B1 Evidence the ability to analyse and evaluate ideas from a range of primary and secondary sources. (problem analysis)

4C1 Evidence the capacity for undertaking practical and theoretical research that demonstrates an awareness of critical, effective and testable processes. (research)

4D1 To communicate individual opinions in written, visual, oral and other appropriate forms (technical competence / visual quality)

The title of this brief is "This is Graphic Design" and will provide an introduction to the contextual and historical background of art, design and media, whilst also considering relationships between theory and practice. This brief will give me an opportunity to build on and apply my contextual knowledge and skills in critical writing. I will use a range of theoretical and practical research methods to explore a specific theme. I will be supported throughout by my tutors in the form of lectures, seminars and workshops.

As a product of this brief I will produce a blog, 3000 word essay and a body of practical work, all supporting one another.
