Explaining the essay question to one of my tutors I got some very useful feedback and reassurance that the essay question was an effect one, that required a simple structure but could have technical analysis within in. My tutor also said to carry this essay onto next year an outcome could be to produce my own travel publication, as this would be a massive undertaking, and research everything in more detail, perhaps focusing on one specific aspect of editorial design.
They gave me a simple essay structure that I could follow:
Part one: Principles of editorial design
Part two: Visual language of travel publications
Part Three: Analysis of two publications, one magazine and one brochure, basing analysis on the research from the previous two sections.
The next stage will be to look at editorial design books and research the different principles of editorial design in an analytical manner, researching different techniques and strategies they use.
