I produced a survey using SurveyMonkey to see what people use travel brochures for, how they search for holidays and whether they'd actually use a more user friendly brochure.
I shared the link to my survey on Facebook for my friends to do, and emailed it to my family as well to get a older generations opinions as they are the ones who are more likely to look at travel brochures.
Questions:
1. When booking/researching holidays, would you prefer to go into a travel agents and talk to a rep face to face and/or pick up a brochure, or to research it online?
2. If you go into a travel agent to book/look at holidays, do you get prices or information you wouldn't get online?
3. When booking/looking at holidays, do you use any of the following sites?
(booking.com, expedia, secret escapes, airbnb, trip advisor, lonely planet, thomas cook, thompson, jet2 holidays, national geographic)
4. Describe travel brochures in a few words...and what do you look for in a travel brochure? e.g. prices, available dates, photographs, ratings, facilities etc.
5. When researching a holiday, do you use any of the following social media sites?
(Instagram, flickr, twitter, Youtube, facebook, tumblr)
6. When researching holidays, do you get inspiration from travel magazines such as Lonely Planet or Boat, and/or travel sections in regular magazines such as ELLE? Name the magazines in the comments box.
7. If a travel agent had an interactive screen where you could search for holidays by yourself, with better deals and prices than online, would you make the effort to go into the store to use this facility?
8. Would you use travel brochures more if they were produced in a digital platform such as a mobile app or website?
9. Would you use travel brochures more if they had a more appealing aesthetic, something similar to travel magazines with a focus on photographs rather than facts and information?
10. When looking for a holiday, rate these things in order of importance to see either online or in a brochure.
(available dates to travel & prices, ratings, similar holidays/hotels, price, reviews, locations map, photographs, facilities, description, agent information (about the company), terms & conditions)
This survey should give me an idea of what people actually use when looking at holidays or booking them, and what information they really want to get from a website/brochure. Sending it out to my non creative friends and family should also give me a broad range of answers, as everyone goes on holiday, and this practical outcome should reflect that.
