OUGD501 BROCHURE FIRST STAGE

This is the first draft of the publication, redesigning Jet2 Holidays brochure in a way that makes it more appealing to read, and shows off the holidays in a better light. It still needs some finishing touches such as adding a digital element, I'm thinking a page at the beginning which features the public's top Instagram photographs from the places featured in the last issue of the magazine. The public post their travel photographs on Instagram and tag Jet2 Holidays and potentially a hashtag, and the best ones are chosen to feature in the next issue of the brochure. This would incentivise people to communicate and interact more with Jet2 Holidays, and if they think they have a chance to feature in the brochure they may be more likely to pick one up. I also need to find some way of finishing it off, as it can't just end all of a sudden, however I'm not sure how to do this, possibly a list of top places to visit in the Algarve and Madeira, although should this be at the beginning not the end? I should definitely research into how brochures and publications in general finish off, and come to an effective conclusion.
There is also an issue with printing costs, which I should of thought about when producing the publication. It is 60 pages long, 30 spreads single sided printed. This is quite a chunky publication, especially taking into consideration the folded over binding method. A peer suggested to include the full publication for digital submission and online, but for the printed publication to include less hotels and to mention that for more hotels see the website. This would solve the issue for the cost of printing, however for this digital demonstration below a different layout has been adopted, so that the front cover is on a single page and then it goes into spreads and ends with a single page as well. However for printing due to the bind, it starts off straight into spreads and finishes with a spread as well. This could pose issues for the content and whether either layout needs a specific amount of pages to function properly.
I should also include page numbers as well, although no contents page is included because there is only the two sections of the two places. Perhaps I should make these place title pages more obvious, although they do standout differently by having a full bleed photograph as the title page, which will be able to be seen when flicking through.

The next stage with be to produce a short version of the publication and add the rest of the things in such as the Instagram section, page numbers and finish the ending off. The short version will be printed off in a black and white mock up to see how it will work in the binding method. I will also experiment with a pattern for the back and print it off for part of the mock up as well to see if it works or not.
I also need to actually start work on the pattern for the back, and think about whether an added "win" or deals section should be included or if this would disadvantage those who may not be able to get into it. I should experiment with the pattern digitally however before I print it out and apply it to the mock up to ensure it works first. Once I print out my mock up it will be good to get some feedback on it from both my peers and other friends to see if it actually works and fulfils it's aims and isn't just nice to look at.
